2018 Fall Wedding Trends
If you’re planning (or planning to attend) an autumn wedding in 2018, you’re in luck! The upcoming fall season is looking to include timeless touches while incorporating new trends that are sure to wow guests and bring some extra flair to your big day.
A comeback to the natural venue, toned down boho and bold dresses are just a few of the things to look out for this fall. Check out our complete list below for some of the hottest trends in autumn weddings.
FRESH FRUITS
Mason jars and twine are SO last year! This year will see a ditch to the Pinterest favorite in favor of fresh fruit décor – think citrus, figs and pomegranates. Thoughtful fruit-inspired flower arrangements will play to the fall colors and add some color-rich centerpieces to the reception. You may even see these same fruits incorporated in the menu for a multi-sensory, seasonal experience.
BOLD BRIDAL
This fall’s bridal trends have shown a big shift from minimal and whimsy to bold and daring. Super-sized skirts, jeweled necklines, and capes are in, along with bows, ruffles and even color. Brides are becoming more daring – and straying farther from tradition – and the result is innovative and breathtaking.
OUTDOOR CELEBRATIONS ARE STILL IN
Outdoor, rustic, and barn weddings are not going anywhere anytime soon (yay!) – but expect to see a rise in a more refined, custom gathering. The unpolished bohemian affair is taking a backseat to a polished, elevated event with finer notes and lots of texture. There will also be a greater shift into the al fresco wedding – in an open field or mountainside. Minimalism is coming back and open air receptions will be a big hit.
NATURAL ELEMENTS
Sophisticated wood walls and wooden banquet tables are the elegance brides are looking for this fall. Lush greenery will be used in a big way to help the shift from rustic to modern. Expect to see potted plants and silk fabrics that naturally liven up the space while still having the feeling of an intimate affair.
A SPLASH OF BOHO
Boho has been big over the last few years, but expect it to get scaled down to only some details. Textural elements like fringe and lace dosed into a bouquet adds just the right amount of flair without feeling folksy.
COLORS
Last year’s weddings were all about color but expect that to be toned down this autumn. Moody colors like plum and burgundy will lead the way in wedding schemes, but neutrals and blushes will still have their time to shine. There will be a shift to a more Victorian palette with copper being the metallic of the season.
CAKE
This season will see an even greater shift away from fondant design to a clean, textured look dressed up with natural elements. The naked cake is still in but expect some touches of drizzle and greenery without much flair. Cakes are still getting smaller, and couples are supplementing fun, unique treats for dessert.
Fall weddings are all about embracing the whimsy in the air. With this year’s trends, expect to see an even greater shift to the natural, outdoor ceremony that incorporates a romantic feel while still being polished and elegant.
